Find a charger nearby

This tutorial is for drivers using the ExpresScan iOS app who want to find a charger they can plug into right now. You’ll open the Chargers tab, let the app use your location, and pick the closest charger from the list.

  • ExpresScan installed on your iPhone and signed in to your account.
  • Location services enabled on your iPhone.

Goal Find the closest charger and open its detail screen

Time~2 min

  1. Open the Chargers tab

Launch ExpresScan and tap Chargers in the bottom tab bar. The screen header reads Chargers.

The first time you open this tab, iOS asks for permission to use your location. Tap Allow While Using App so the app can sort chargers by distance.

Granting location access lets ExpresScan promote the closest charger to the top of the list.
  2. Wait for the list to load

The app fetches the chargers linked to your account. While it loads, you’ll see a spinner. Once the list resolves, your chargers appear as rows.

  3. Look for the highlighted card at the top

When you’re within about 150 metres of one of your chargers, that charger moves into a tall card at the top of the list. The card shows the charger name and how far away it is.

The remaining chargers appear as standard rows below the card, each with its own distance reading if your location is available.

The closest charger sits in a promoted card; others follow as rows.
  4. Filter the list (optional)

If you have several chargers and want to narrow the list, tap the filter menu in the top-right of the screen. Pick an online-status option to show only chargers in that state.

  5. Tap a charger to open its details

Tap the promoted card, or any row in the list, to open that charger’s detail screen. From there you can start a session.

You know it worked when:

  • The Chargers tab shows at least one charger.
  • If you’re near a charger, the closest one appears in a tall card at the top with a distance in metres.
  • Tapping a charger opens its detail screen.

The list is empty and says “No chargers yet”. No chargers are linked to your account yet. Chargers connected via OCPP appear here once they’re associated with you. Contact your site operator if you expected one to be listed.

The screen says “Couldn’t load chargers”. The app couldn’t reach the server. Tap Try again. If it keeps failing, check your internet connection.

No distance is shown on any charger. Your location isn’t available. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → ExpresScan on your iPhone and set access to While Using the App. Return to the Chargers tab to refresh.

You scanned a sticker but the charger didn’t open. The sticker may point to a charger that isn’t on your account, or one that was recently removed. Pull down on the list to refresh, then try scanning again.
