How notifications and email work

If you charge with Polaris Express, you’ll see two kinds of updates: in-app notifications that appear while you have the site open, and emails that arrive in your inbox. This page explains what triggers each one and how to confirm the live feed is working on your account.

  • A Polaris Express account you can sign in to.
  • A browser tab open to your customer dashboard.

Goal Confirm notifications are reaching your account

Time~3 min

  1. Sign in to your dashboard

Open the customer dashboard in your browser and sign in. The live feed only runs while you’re signed in — the server rejects the connection otherwise.

Once you're signed in, the dashboard opens a live connection to the server.
  2. Keep the tab open during a session

While the dashboard tab is open, the server streams three kinds of updates to you:

    • Meter updates from a charging session you own.
    • Charger status changes, so you can see when a charger becomes available.
    • Notifications that are either broadcast to everyone or addressed to you specifically.

You don’t have to do anything to subscribe — the connection opens when the page loads.

  3. Watch for a notification

When a notification arrives, it shows up in the dashboard without a page reload. Notifications addressed to you only reach your browser; notifications addressed to another customer never appear on your screen.

You’ll know the live feed is working when:

  • Meter readings from your own charging session update on screen while the session runs.
  • A new notification appears in the dashboard shortly after it’s sent, without you refreshing the page.

If you start a charging session on a charger linked to your account, the meter ticks should appear within a few seconds. If they don’t, see Troubleshooting below.

The meter isn’t updating during my session.

Meter updates only reach you when the session is linked to your account through a user mapping. If the mapping is missing, the server drops the updates rather than risk showing you someone else’s session. Contact your site operator to confirm your account is mapped to the EV card or idTag you used to start the session.

I’m not seeing any notifications at all.

Make sure you’re signed in. The live feed requires an authenticated session — if you’ve been signed out in another tab, this tab’s connection will be rejected too. Sign in again and reload the dashboard.

I see another customer’s charger going from “available” to “in use”.

That’s expected. Charger status is broadcast to all customers so you can spot a free charger nearby. You won’t see who is using it or any details about their session.
